Vaidya Sutra, an inspiration from the Legendary, Vaidyaratnam practice of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a 5000 years old wellness practice, a science and is an intangible heritage of India. It is considered to be one of the most evolved spiritual experiences that brings the mind, body and soul into a symbiosis.

Coco Lagoon, a wellness retreat in the tropical environs of Tamil Nadu, is located amidst a coconut grove in the Land of prosperity, Pollachi, also known as “Pozhil Vaichi” in Tamil. Sprawled across a large, verdant coconut groove, the luxury of space and privacy will provide the much-needed respite. This Ayurveda retreat aims to nourish your body, mind and soul through authentic and delectable local food, individual service by the staff and the Ayurvedic practices from the renowned Ashtavaidyan Thaikkattu Mooss Vaidyaratnam Group culminating in their labour of love; Vaidya Sutras, the wellness centre. At Coco Lagoon, you have the perfect opportunity to swap your corybantic lifestyle with your calm inner soul, holistically rejuvenating and revitalizing, every day of your stay.

The family of Thaikkattu Mooss of Vaidyaratnam group has been engaged in the authentic practice of Ayurveda since 1924, the doctors from the family have provided solutions to severe disorders and history is testament to their accomplishments. The tradition of practising holistic healing dates back to Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is believed to have retrieved Kerala, the land of herbs.

Ayurveda, unlike other practices of medicine, focuses on treating the patient and not the disease and its symptoms. Thus, Ayurveda treats a patient holistically – on physical, psychological and spiritual levels. There are eight disciplines or Ashtangas in Ayurveda. They are Kaya Chikitsa (General Medicine), Bala Chikitsa (Pediatrics), Graha Chikitsa (Occult and Tantric Medicine), Oordhwanga Chikitsa (ENT), Salya Chikitsa (Surgery), Damshtra Chikitsa (Toxicology), Jara Chikitsa (Geriatrics) and Vrisha Chikitsa (Aphrodisiac Treatment). The immunity-boosting facet of Ayurveda in conjunction with Yoga has achieved global acceptance with many modern pharmaceutical companies and research facilities studying and isolating compounds for the treatment of common cold to cancer. Today more than ever before the holistic approach of Ayurveda and Yoga are essential elements to inculcate into your lifestyle.

The physicians from the famed Vaidyaratnam pedigree belong to the rare tradition of the Ashtavaidyas – those equally proficient in all the eight disciplines of Ayurveda. The genesis story of Thaikkattu Mooss family begins with Sri. Narayanan Mooss and Ittiravi Mooss of the 19th century. In the year 1924, Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss was awarded the coveted title of VAIDYARATNAM by Lord Reading., who was the Viceroy of India. The seeds of Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala were sown in 1941 by Padmasri awardee Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandhan Mooss, the son of Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss. Today the Vaidyaratnam institutions have expanded their horizons, under the leadership of Ashtavaidyan E.T. Narayanan Mooss who is a Padmabhushan awardee.
